Cosplay Contest

Cosplay contest rules and information:

Cosplay Contest is free to enter, but you must have a valid CAP-EX admission ticket.
All costumes are welcome (from any genre or series), but costumes must follow any convention, local,
or state-wide rules or laws, including props.
Real weapons are NOT allowed. This includes live steel, guns, knives, projectiles, overly heavy
objects, etc. Any weapons MUST be prop checked and peace bonded
This is a family-friendly event! No nudity or overly suggestive costumes are allowed. Inappropriate
behavior is also not allowed.
Some kind of foot covering must be worn on stage. This includes sneakers, flipflops, wooden shoes, or
any other foot covering. Socks do not count as footwear.
Each contestant is only allowed to sign up/appear on stage once, either as a group or ian ndividual, but
not both.
Contestants are not allowed to throw anything, jump off the stage, flips or tumbles on or off the stage,
or anything similar. Failure to follow this rule will result in immediate disqualification and removal
from the event.
Glitter, water, confetti, smoke, fake/liquid blood, streamers, poppers, fire or anything like these items
are NOT allowed. Anything that cannot be picked up as you walk off stage or that will set off fire
alarms is NOT allowed.
Skits are NOT allowed. Practiced walk-ons are okay, but you must keep your time on stage to 45
seconds or less.
We can not accommodate any music/audio or lighting requests. Microphones are also not available
for contestant use.
When you sign up for the cosplay contest, you agree to be respectful of other contestants, judges, or
any other volunteers/workers. Good sportsmanship must be practiced at this event.
Contestants 17 years of age or younger must have parents’ permission and parents MUST be present
to sign a liability/participation waiver at sign-up.
By signing up you agree to your likeness/costume to be photographed or filmed for future
promotional materials.
Any costume that has won a previous award at any other convention is allowed to recompete in this
event. Contestants recompeting must disclose this to the judges at prejudging. Failure to comply will
result in disqualification.
Costumes must be self-contained and fit through a standard door frame. Costumes with low visibility
must have a handler present to help navigate.

Contestants entering for craftsmanship awards (information below) MUST attend prejudging to be
considered.

Contest information:

Sign ups will be held at Astros_here ‘s booth day of the event, sign ups will be held from 10am to
3pm.
Prejudging will be held north of the cosplay guest area from 4pm to 5pm. Prejudging will be first
come first served, prejudging will end at 5pm sharp. Each contestant will have 2 minutes to share how
they made their costumes to the judges. Groups will get 1 additional minute per extra person
(example: 3 people will get 4 minutes).
Stage portions will be held from 5pm to 6pm. Contestants (unless prejudging) must show up 30 mins
prior to start of contest to be lined up for the show!
Build books are not mandatory but highly appreciated.
Contestants must be present and walk the stage to be considered for awards. Contestants also must
be present to receive awards after judges deliberation.
All awards/prizes are subject to change at any time. Judges are allowed to give out or not give out
any awards they choose, best in show must be given out at this event.
This is a CRAFTSMANSHIP first contest. Quality, craftsmanship, and cleanliness are what the majority
gets judged on.

Categories:

Beginner: open to anyone who has made or altered 50% or less of their costume.
Advanced: open to those who have made or heavily altered 50% or MORE of their costumes.
